Types of Inspections
Inspections can be divided into several types, including
Floor Inspection, Centralized Inspection, Combined Inspection, Functional
Inspection, First Piece Inspection, Pilot Piece Inspection and Final
Inspection. The following is a brief discussion.
Floor Inspection: is an inspection conducted in the production process. In
Floor Inspection, the Inspector inspects Material or semi-finished products
(Semi Goods) in the production process, whether done by humans or machines.
Inspector will carry out inspection from one machine / worker to another
machine / worker. This inspection method can detect problems early before the
product is produced in large quantities.
Centralized Inspection: is an Inspection that is carried out at a certain location
or centered at a specified place. All Testing Equipment and Machines are placed
in a place devoted to testing. All product samples that will be tested will be
brought to the location for testing.
Combined Inspection: is a combination of Floor Inspection and Centralized
Inspection.
Functional Inspection: is a functional inspection of the product. As an example,
in checking the function of a motor, Functional Inspection will check the
characteristics of the motor speed according to the specified without having to
know the characteristics of each component forming the motor. Functional
Inspection is generally carried out after a product has become a Finished
Product.
First Piece Inspection: is an inspection conducted on the first unit. The first
unit in question could be the first unit at the shift of work shifts, the first
unit at the LOT product change, the first unit at the change of work tools or
the first unit at the change of machine parameters.
Pilot Piece Inspection: is an inspection conducted on new products or new models
Methods of Inspection in Quality Control: There are two methods of doing Inspections (Inspection),
namely the 100% Inspection method (100% Inspection) and the Inspection method
by sampling (Sampling Inspection).
100% Inspection Method: is an Inspection carried out on all products produced by
the production and testing techniques used must not be destructive (not damage
the product). The 100% inspection method requires a lot of labor and high
costs. This 100% inspection method is usually applied to high-priced products.
Sampling Inspection Method: is an inspection conducted on a certain number of samples
from the total number of products produced in a certain time span. Samples
taken in general are random samples (random samples) that represent the entire
product population (generally based on models, labor, machinery or a certain
time span). If the inspection is proven to detect a defective product then all
related products will be rejected (rejected) and must be reworked or re-sorted.
Inspection or Inspection of Sampling is cheaper and faster but has the risk of
sampling error. This sampling error can usually be estimated. In the case of destructive testing that is testing that can
damage the product concerned, this sampling inspection is highly recommended. This Inspection Sampling Method is usually carried out on
products that are less precise and not expensive.
